WONCA Executive Meeting – the CEO reports
In this month’s WONCA News our CEO, Dr Garth Manning, reports on the WONCA Executive’s meeting at RCGP HQ in London on 1st and 2nd April 2017. Although the 2016-18 WONCA Executive had held an initial short meeting in Rio, immediately after the World Council, and of course also meets monthly via teleconference, this was its first full face-to-face meeting. As usual, many topics were covered, and you can read more on the proceedings at the WONCA website.
WONCA Statement on Planetary Health
One item on the agenda for the WONCA Executive meeting (see above) was to consider a statement on planetary health, produced by WONCA’s Working Party on the Environment, in collaboration with the Working Party on Rural Practice. Executive was pleased to endorse this important statement, which you can read in full on the WONCA website.
Reflections on the VdGM forum in Strasbourg
Candan Kendir was the Vasco da Gama Movement (VdGM) Fund Winner attending the 4th VdGM Forum which was held from 20-21 April 2017 in Strasbourg, France. This month’s WONCA news contains an article where she reflects on the wonderful event in Strasbourg.

A few weeks ago we highlighted the rural health crisis in Northern Ireland. One interesting advert currently featuring on the WONCA Global Jobs Portal is for a Foundation Dean for the proposed new Graduate Medical School at Ulster University. This medical school wants to put particular emphasis on community based teaching, and enhancement of the rural workforce, especially for the north-west of Ireland, and various WONCA colleagues – especially from our Working Party on Rural Health - have been providing advice to the University hierarchy as this project progresses.
