WONCA Europe Council Outcomes
Our colleagues in WONCA Europe held their latest Council meeting in Krakow, on 24th May, just in advance of the WONCA Europe conference. It was a very full agenda, and in this month’s WONCA News Dr Anna Stavdal, WONCA Europe President, reports on a number of WONCA Europe Council endorsements:- two equity statements, the Overdiagnosis /Overtreatment position paper, and papers on Training Requirements for GP/FM, as well as Quality in family medicine.
Featured Doctor: Professor Faisal Alnaser
One of this month’s featured doctors is Professor Faisal Alnaser from Bahrain. Faisal is professor of family medicine and leader in the development of family medicine in the East Mediterranean region.
WONCA and One Health Initiative
For a number of years WONCA has supported the aims and objectives of the One Health Initiative. The mission statement of the Initiative is:
Recognizing that human health (including mental health via the human-animal bond phenomenon), animal health, and ecosystem health are inextricably linked, One Health seeks to promote, improve, and defend the health and well-being of all species by enhancing cooperation and collaboration between physicians, veterinarians, other scientific health and environmental professionals and by promoting strengths in leadership and management to achieve these goals.
This has increasing relevance in today’s complex interaction between man, animals and the environment, as evidenced by the spread of antimicrobial resistance and the emergence and re-emergence of vector-borne and zoonotic infections. Distinguished Research Making Family Medicine Shine Award deadline 29 June
Our colleagues from the Host Organizing Committee in Seoul have just informed us that the submission deadline of the 1st Distinguished Research Making Family Medicine Shine Award has been extended.
The aim of this award is to recognize the distinguished research conducted by WONCA colleagues which has been published in high-impact journals in the field of medicine or health sciences and to honor and award them at WONCA 2018 Seoul.
