A Diabetes Insipidus (más néven húgyár) egy nagyon ritka öröklött vagy szerzett anyagcsere betegség, amely a szervezetben a víz egyensúlyának felbomlását okozza. Medical experts around the world have changed the name of a rare condition, after recognising that its previous name, caused confusion amongst hospital staff and led to a number of patients dying from dehydration, which could have been prevented. The rare, but easily treatable condition, formerly known as diabetes insipidus, is frequently mistaken by medical staff for type 1 and type 2 diabetes, even though the condition is not linked to sugar levels. City News spoke to Rita Cronin whose twenty-two-year-old son Kane Gorny tragically died in a south London hospital, in May 2009, after medical staff failed to recognise his diabetes insipidus and give him the lifesaving medication he needed and enough drinking water.
